Mailed from Laramie, Wyoming to Louis Robert Coatney of Galesburg, Illinois on June 15, 1951:

Thurs Nite.
Dear Lou: - This where we're staying all night on ot way to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. We certainly have seen the sights today. Came over from Glenwood via Loveland Pass through Rock Mtns. Nat'l Park which were over 12000 feet high. The snowbanks were way higher than the car. Daddy took a picture of me beside a snowbanks as high as my head or higher. We saw snowplow machines clearing the snow away as we would have a nice road to 90 on. We enjoyed it but it would have made you tired driving so much. Love, Mommy.

Failed Tyre

Failed Tyre

This is the second time a Schwalbe Marathon has failed on me like this. I will replace this tyre with a different brand.

I was out cycling towards the Chiltern Hills on a lovely sunny autumn day. The woods and valleys were in sight then I noticed a bump, bump, bump from the rear wheel. That was the end of my lovely cycle ride. I didnt get to tour the Chiltern lanes, through all the autumn colour.

I have found these tyres pick up a lot of flints. I reckon a flint worked into the tyre and did this. My last Shwalbe rear tyre went the same way after very few miles.

Mr Snake, Part 1

Mr Snake, Part 1

(part 1 of 6) As it was now getting late, and we were all tired and getting hungry, we decided to go back to the first spot and make the best of it at Antelope Reservoir. The site we chose wasn’t ideal by any means, but we were determined to make the best of it and stay anyway. First of all, the wind and mosquitoes were bad. There were little stink beetles all over the ground, and there was no shade in sight. Our first attempt to park the trailer was difficult because the ground was so uneven, and we decided that we needed to move the trailer a second time to partially block the wind. This second position left the truck precariously balanced near the edge of the dirt “boat launch-“an earthen ramp leading into the mud. Even this didn’t dissuade us from trying to spend the night. That is, until Alex and I were beginning to level the trailer and Misty was near the water, when she yelled “rattlesnake!”
Misty ran back up to camp with this lousy rattlesnake chasing her the whole way. Once it got to the picnic table, it crawled into the center of the only little patch of grass under the table, and coiled up and began to rattle. Well, we couldn’t leave it hanging out there waiting to get one of us- so I grabbed the broom and began to try to “flush it out” from the table. Guess where it decided to go and hide next? Under our camper! Talk about bad becoming worse- this was even less of a good place for him to hide as far as we were concerned. So, once again we tried to scare it out from its hiding space.
It very quickly became obvious that the broom wasn’t going to be the best weapon, and I got out a metal shrub rake that we had just bought to clear the brush from campsites before we throw our camping mat down. Even the rake wouldn’t reach, and I got out a lantern stand that we had in the trailer. This only pissed off our little visitor, who retaliated by climbing up the far wheel well into the subfloor of the trailer. Now, in my mind this is probably the worst thing that could happen- we weren’t sure if he could get inside the trailer, and he was fairly sure he wasn’t going to come back out. So, we spent the next hour trying to figure out how to convince a rattlesnake to leave the trailer. For the first 30 minutes or so, we couldn’t even find him- but eventually he stuck his head out of a hole by the grey water holding tank. (Yes, that’s his head sticking out of the hole)

I'm on vacation visiting family right now in San Diego, and will be for three weeks. My grandma has no internet, so I either have to go without or steal spotty internet from one of her neighbours (which is how I'm posting this).

We were camping with my cousins north of San Diego when I took this, and one day I rode my bike down a trail and discovered this strange dumping ground, with mounds of mattresses, drawers, ropes, tires, and all sorts of odds and ends like shoes and ties. It was weird, and creepy, but fun! I found this old plasma screen that was cracked, which is what I'm holding here.

Also, to get this shot, I had to precariously balance my camera on my bike, and then (since I had forgotten my remote) run back and forth to start the ten second timer, while the whole time I was attacked by a giant horde of flying ants. It sucked.

I'm also going to complain a bit about how Flickr sucked the colour out of this.

I ask you Mr. P, what are you doing down on the garage floor??

He said he just wanted to do some routine maintenance on the tires. You know...check the tire pressure and make sure the treads are wearing evenly. He said that with such a large SUV, we needed to make sure we got the best mileage possible.

So, Mr. P...can you do anything about the gas prices???

Possibly used. Who buys used tires? I don't know. It's rhetorical. I suppose the tread wear here is minimal, so maybe they're new. I just answered my own question. Scary.

CAR TYRE SPEED RATING - CAR TYRE

Car tyre speed rating - Canadian tire hours of operation toronto.

Car Tyre Speed Rating

car tyre speed rating

    speed rating
  • Tire code or Tyre code - Automobile tires are described by an alphanumeric code, which is generally molded into the sidewall of the tire. This code specifies the dimensions of the tire, and some of its key limitations, such as load-bearing ability, and maximum speed.

  • a letter that identifies a tire's high speed durability. A tire's capabilities are tested at preset speeds and the results of these tests determine the tire's speed rating. Speed Ratings include: Q, S, T, U, H, V, Z, W, Y

  • Speed rating to indicate the range of speeds at which a tyre can carry a load under a range of conditions. Ratings are categorised from A-Z.

    car tyre
  • A tire (in American English) or tyre (in British English) is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground.

Sunbeam 1000 HP Land Speed Record Car

Sunbeam 1000 HP Land Speed Record Car

The Sunbeam 1000 HP Mystery, or "The Slug", is a land speed record-breaking car built by the Sunbeam Car Company of Wolverhampton that was powered by two aircraft engines. It was the first car to travel at over 200 mph. The car's last run was a demonstration circuit at Brooklands, running at slow speed on only one engine.
The engines were a pair of Sunbeam Matabele 22.4 litre aircraft engines, previously used in a powerboat. Although best known as the "1000 HP" car, its actual power was closer to 900 hp. One engine was mounted ahead of the driver, one behind. The rear engine was started first by compressed air, then the front engine was started through a mechanical friction clutch. Once synchronised, they were locked together with a dog clutch for the record attempt.
The car was designed by Captain Jack Irving, having new features such as all-enveloping bodywork that assisted aerodynamics. The car also had specially-made tyres capable of withstanding 200 mph, although only rated for 3? minutes at these speeds[1]. One more primitive feature was the final drive to the rear axle using a pair of chains. Only weeks before the record attempt, J. G. Parry-Thomas had been decapitated when a similar chain in his car Babs had broken at speed. Although the Sunbeam's chains were enclosed below an armoured steel housing, these covers had been designed from the beginning, they were not added after Parry-Thomas' accident.
The Sunbeam 1000 HP was the first non-American car to run on Daytona Beach for a land speed record attempt. On 29 March 1927 Henry Segrave drove the car to a new land speed record of 203.79 mph, the first car to reach a speed over 200 mph.

1987, Buick introduced the GNX at $29,000. Produced by McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC, Buick underrated the GNX at 276 hp (206 kW) and a very substantial 360 lb·ft (488 N·m) of torque.[4] This was created to be the "Grand National to end all Grand Nationals." Changes made included a special Garrett turbocharger with a ceramic-impeller blowing through a more efficient intercooler and a "CERMATEL (Ceramic/Aluminum) coated" pipe connecting the intercooler to the engine. A GNX specific EEPROM, low-restriction exhaust with dual mufflers, reprogrammed Turbo Hydramatic 200-4R transmission with a custom torque converter and transmission cooler, and unique differential cover/panhard bar included more of the performance modifications. Exterior styling changes include vents located on each front fender, 16 inch black mesh style wheels with VR-speed rated tires, and deletion of the hood and fender emblems. The interior changes of the GNX included a serial number on the dash plaque and a revised instrument cluster providing analog Stewart-Warner gauges, including an analog turbo boost gauge. GNX #001 is the 1986 prototype currently owned by Buick and sometimes makes appearances at car shows around the US. The GNX had a ladder bar that ran from the mid-section of the car to the rear axle, so as to increase traction. This is also the reason why a GNX will actually lift the rear end up when the car is about to launch heavily.
